Environment, Health and Safety Resources

Product stewardship is a team effort, requiring the knowledge and expertise of a variety of disciplines.

Each Dow business employs a Global EH&S Product Leader whose responsibilities include:

  • Developing, maintaining and leveraging resources to ensure implementation of a global product stewardship plan for the business
  • Working with appropriate experts to identify health and environmental data necessary to assess the toxicity and environmental impacts of the business’ products
  • Working with appropriate experts to review and interpret relevant environmental health and safety data in order to develop and implement plans to protect human health and the environment
  • Working with regulatory and issue management experts to identify and monitor relevant legislative and regulatory developments to ensure compliance with applicable governmental requirements

Global EH&S Product Leaders are aided in accomplishing these responsibilities by Product Stewardship Specialists, who implement all the relevant aspects of the global product stewardship plan and assure regulatory compliance in a specific geographic region.

In addition, Dow employs over 100 scientists, many with doctoral degrees, with expertise and/or board certification in the fields of mammalian toxicology, eco-toxicology, environmental science, industrial hygiene, human medicine and epidemiology. These scientists advise Dow’s businesses on relevant environment, health and safety aspects with regard to Dow’s products.

Long recognized as a leader in environmental health protection, The Dow Chemical Company in 2004 celebrated a 70-year history of its toxicology and environmental science programs. For more information, read Seven Decades of Excellence (97KB PDF)

To stay abreast of product safety regulatory requirements around the globe, Dow employs over 50 regulatory experts who interpret and apply applicable regulatory requirements to Dow’s products.
